Detection of Campylobacter sp. from Poultry Feces in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Background: Campylobacter contamination in poultry and poultry product has been reported worldwide. The present study aims to determine the prevalence of in feces using selective enrichment Bolton broth multiplex PCR. Method: Two methods were used this study: first was direct plating feces into mCCDA agar plates. second, three antibiotics at different concentrations to add supplemented. These Rifampicin (Oxoid, Nepean, Ontario) with 10 mg/L, colistin (Oxoid, Nepean, Ontario) 1 mg/mL and 2 mg/mL; trimethoprim mg/L. colonies typical campylobacter morphology on blood (little, red ring colonies) further identified to the species level by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results: addition colistin (2 mg/mL) to supplements enhanced isolation of strains. Out the 52 samples, 18 (34.61%) positive for 11 (21.15%) strains (p detected belonged to coli (5.55%) strain jejuni. Conclusion: Although it is known be difficult isolate from animal samples, this shows that antibiotic pressure improves isolation efficiency feces.
